Hostel-- Rating: 6.5 out of 10

I watched a Tarantino interview the other day and he was discussing how the horror genre was on a comeback. He wasn't kidding. I went to go see Hostel today and sat through 8 previews that were all horror films coming soon. Shit to be honest, they all looked pretty good.

Hostel was an interesting flick about 3 dudes who are backpacking through Europe and get a tip on a hot spot to bang chicks in Slovakia. They get this tip around 5am while taking bong rips in Amsterdam so it made perfect sense to hop the eurorail and head east. Anyway, after an interesting evening with a couple hot bitches at the bar and in the bed, shit starts to get weird. Believe it or not, this film made both "Saw" and "Saw II" look like Big Top Pee-Wee. Probably the goriest movie I've ever seen. And that's a pretty bold statement. 6 years ago I traveled to Europe with a couple buddies so maybe there was a personal eeriness incorporated into the whole story. Eli Roth must have smoked mad rock while writing the script and definitely had Tarantino fueling the fire by all of the random gore involved. I think Tarantino has a thing for asian chicks as well. Definitely not "scream" so don't even think about taking the girlfriend/wife with you to this. This is about as hardcore as it gets. Naked Chicks, vomit, booze, grass, chopped off limbs, gunshots, and swearing. Could you ask for anything else in theatrical entertainment?
